Goner Message Board / Food & Drink / A-1 Sauce VS Heinz 57

Fight it out. For me ,it's Heinz 57 sauce all the way(even if it lines the pockets of John Kerry). A-1 Sauce is just tarted-up ketchup.

A-1 fer sure. There's only one thing I eat it on, however - steak strips and fries.

I keep neither around the house. I got Pickapeppa tho. kinda like A-1 but far better.

A-1, but I don't really like either anymore. I like to taste STEAK.

A-1 for burgres and 57 for grilled chicken sandwiches. Who actually puts sauce on steak, what are you, like 8 years old?

HP sauce...A1 and 57 are HP wannabees but nothing beats D.L. Jardines steak seasoning and a really hot grill.

A1 on a burger is great and 57 on fries/hashbrowns. Either on an expensive steak is like mixing Kool-Aid in Dom Perignon or Roderer Cristal...it's a sin.
HP Sauce makes a inexpensive steak taste like a mint...but never use sauce on an expensive steak...a good rub or just salt and pepper.

Who actually puts sauce on steak

what about steak au poivre man? with a nice cognac-based pan sauce or with a nice dijon cream sauce or even bearnaise on the side?

A pan sauce and a bottled sauce are two different animals. I still think a GOOD steak doesn't need any help.

I put Heinz 57 on meatloaf and cheaper hamburger

i have never tasted heinz 57 sauce. for real.

i've had a1 on a burger before but i prefer to season my burgers when i make the patties. i use soy sauce or balsamic. i'm pretty sure that soy sauce or something similar is a main ingredient in those "steak sauces," yeah?

A good steak makes its own sauce. But if I were to eat a shitty steak, I would go with A1. The only reason for that is I'd rather have some tang to wash it down with rather than that sugar filled dog diarrhea that you people call heinz 57.

I have a hard enough time just pronouncing "Worcestershire sauce", which is equally reminiscent of dog urine.

From the Food Network:

To make a sauce, simmer 3/4 cup balsamic vinegar, 2/3 cup ketchup, 1/4 cup honey, 2 sliced shallots, 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon dijon mustard, 1/4 teaspoon allspice, and salt, pepper and sugar to taste until thickened, about 15 minutes. Strain, then whisk in some butter.

A-1 is more citrus and less Mustard or mustard seed & 57 is more mustard

For me I've attempted others however A1 is dependably the best, and dependably will be as I would like to think, Tastes like celebrated ketchup :)

Idealize parity of sweet and sharp. I like it!! Love the size and nothing beats A1 on a steak!
