maybe a month long stretch of poverty here and there in the last 25 years.

10 years

from fresh out the womb till I bought that first Devo lp

Well, I had pretty overdosed on it at that point, too much for too many years. I probably still had stuff that folks gave me, but I don't think I purchased anything. I was also really lamenting my favorite record store closing etc. I was also on this thing that if I had played something in 10 years it needed to leave my life (this was a total failure, but it motivated me to listen to stuff I already had).

Hmm... I lived in this one apt in NJ for 4 years where the kitchen was not adjacent to the living/dining combo room (seems like I'm most likely to listen to records when I'm cooking/eating) AND as anyone who's lived in NJ knows you have to drive at least 20 min to get anywhere, so I bought mostly CDs at the time, as I pretty much only listened to music in my car. Maybe that counts?

This is going to be a very special episode of HOARDERS.

How many times have you run yourself into the ground over records? Rhetorical question. Many people struggle with it.

Down with the daft!

After Record Store Day, I am not going to buy anything for a month. Mainly because I am running out of room with all the records I got now.

I actually spend more time on my cell phone at record stores than I do digging threw the bins any more...because usually what decides if I buy a record is how easy it is to find...in the past I've walked out of stores having spent my rent. Now I try to keep it to a tastefull two record maximum. Also, I mostly try to avoid record stores all together.

The longest I ever went without buying a record was two years, and it was my freshman and sophmore years of college...I actually thought I had grown out of this shit, but the simple fact was that what little money I had was going to Special Brew and Wild Irish Rose...yuck!

I'm not a prolific collector however...most of my records aren't even in the right sleeves, I can't find anything. Most of my cd cases are in a garbage bag destined for a landfill.

Outta room for records. Going to sell my 70's English punk stuff. Anybody need a mint copy of "Love Bites"?

I really don't want to bat the Tigerblinds cage, but record stores hate this shit. yeah, you could get XYZ at a cheaper price but sometimes you just pay a bit more to support your local store. Record stores are going out of business in droves. Sure I can get something cheaper in certain situations, but if they like you at a certain store it pays for itself with them knowing what you like, pulling things aside for you or knowing that you are tight this month they let your "hold pile" getting a little larger that normal. Helps to be loyal.

Boohoo. You know how many of my friends have opened record stores in the past 5 years? I can't support them all. Anyway, the only reason I go to record stores is to find deals, otherwise I'd order exactly what I want off the internet and have it delivered straight to my door.....I go to the New Arrivals section (usually don't find anything) and the Budget Bin section...that's how I have always been, and that's how back in the day I got in on the most happening shit on the ground level.

I'm amazed by the shit that get's marked down...that's because people are fucking idiots Ida. Thanks for the laugh bud.

Worrying what "record stores" hate, is kind of like worrying about what "guitar shop assholes" think...to bring this thread full circle.

I'm a "budget rocker" do you remember that term? That's how I got into vinyl in the first place.

It's not as easy any more, because all of these corporate types fakers brought a bunch of BULLSHIT into play, but I'm still having fun.
Posted: Apr 3, 2014 2:53 am

Do you think going to guitar stores is still fun? I can tell you it was allot more fun when you could still get a Silvertone or old Harmony for 100 bucks...and it was the 90's so everyone had more money.

It was allot nicer when you could still press vinyl for cheap, and LPs cost 8 dollars (and most people didn't have turntables) and cd's cost 12 dollars.

I'm just saying, I've been around long enough, I don't care what any body thinks...they should be more concerned about pissing me off than I am of pissing them off to be honest.

Note to self. Do not badger tigerblinds cage...

Oh god, more Gonerboard fagottry thanks Jesse...douche.

The other reason I go to record stores is to find shit I don't see often....so basically I'm looking for a good deal or to score some obscure shit...and preferably whatever I buy fits in both of those categories.

What are your all's collector habits? I mean besides pandering to record store clerks?

I rest my case...so eat shit Jesse. Suck on that bitch.

Pandering? it's don't shit where you eat. This is a record store forum last time I checked.

note to self: alert CIA to Amazon user who wanders around record stores with a camera

I'm lookin' for bargains. For five bucks or less I'll take all kinds of chances. For 15-20 bucks or more I'll buy almost nothing unless I really want it and it's in really good condition.

My record store experience was back in the 90s, but nobody panders to people making seven bucks an hour, fer chrissake.

i just hoard Deep Purple Fireball lp's and sell em to dementia patients...dirt cheap!!
Posted: Apr 8, 2014 1:54 pm

I'm tired of overpaying for beat-to-shit 45's.

the problem is, some songs are so great, people just wore those records out.

Don't shit where you eat? That's rich. Also, I don't use Amazon...also alert the CIA, I don't know about you but they like me....I hope they waterboard you.
Posted: Apr 16, 2014 8:47 am

..until you drown btw.
Posted: Apr 16, 2014 9:40 am

You hope I'm waterboarded? It took you over a week for that comeback. really? You don't know anything about me, but you wish that on me? I'm not offended, but what the fuck is wrong with you?

There will be no more physical record stores, because fucktards like you spend so much time trying to save a fucking dollar by having their nose in their phone.

I've gone w/o sex longer.

I just walked into one of the coolest record stores Ive ever been in my life.

http://www.vealsandgeeks.com/

Sections with obscure seventies Italian prog, Scandinavian psych, krautrock, etc. all the general weirdness that was coming out of Europe in the early seventies. I couldnt believe some of the shit I was seeing here. Things I knew existed on vinyl but had never held in my hands before. Made my heart ache that I dont collect records anymore. OTOH, probably a good thing as I could have easily spent a small fortune here. God I love Europe.

Here is the deal, if record stores have something I actually want I buy it...if it's something I just have a casual relationship with, won't listen to very much, I gotta see if I can get it for free first.

And yes Jesse you are a prig, you should be waterboarded.....if there is any legit CIA guys trolling this site, waterboard that guy pronto! He is a prig.

I've found all of my coolest records at estate sales or in the bargain bins or (brace yourself) at shows!...record stores not so much.

My brother in law gave me a 78 of old Hawaiian slack key music...if I had to guess I would say that's my most valuable record....just fell in my lap.

I'm not a completist and I don't really consider myself a collector...I give away allot of "valuable" records from the 90's that I'm simply uninterested in anymore.

I'm not in the record stores on record store day trying to collect all of the new Burger cassettes....guess what I have a bitchingly awesome Sony cassette player that hasn't been hooked up for over a decade. I almost gave it to this hipster in a mix tape club, but he never picked it up.

Allot of my coolest records have come from thrift stores....I come from the 90's...if I don't gotta pay full price I aint gonna.

I think LP's should go back to being 8 dollars and they will when the pressing plants stop gouging the fuck out of people.

If I want something enough I will pay way over it's value....but I'm not fucking buying some bubblegum pop bullshit at record store prices...I mean if I'm a huge fan sure.....I'd like to go into a record store and have it not be full of shit I'm on the fence about. Lucky for me, most of my favorite shit is in the bargain bins....I didn't think I would find anything in my price range at Third Man Records...that shit is overpriced...but there in the bins, the FEEDTIME boxset for 15 dollars! I tried to buy that when it first came for 45 dollars and I couldn't get my hands on it. That's the kind of shit I live for.

This plan for me went out the window.
