I've been on a tear with this stuff lately.......bought(itunes), Death Angel-The Ultra Violence, Celtic Frost-Morbid Tales, Overkill-The Year of Decay....love these...What else is good? Also I really want a concept album...all the list just bring up Operation Mindcrime and stuff.....this is all Sam's fault. His mix he sent me had some good metal on it and his band Mangina covered a Celtic Frost song....got me wanting to listen to this.

I haven't listened to much metal since I was a teenager, but I remember liking Voivod a lot at the time. Saw them with Celtic Frost in Connecticut in '86. Pretty great.

Kreator-Pleasure To Kill LP, basically their Reign In Blood.
Overkill-Taking Over, worth the admission price for Deny The Cross and Wrecking Crew
Anthrax-Fistful Of Metal. Neil Turbin's vocals were so much more real and streetier than Joey Belladonna's.
Possessed -Beyond The Gates
Exciter-Violence and Force
Maybe throw some Sepultura and Exodus in for good measure.

Here are three songs about violence and one song about fuckin', not necessarily in that order.

and for concept albums look towards King Diamond, almost all of his records are concept albums.

Not thrash per se but while we're in an 80's metal thread you might check out Overkill LA, a Los Angeles band who put out one album in the mid-eighties that was just a good hard rock/metal album with Lemmyesque vocals when nearly everyone else in that scene was either hair metal or traditional power metal. Just good beer drinkin' hard rock/metal.

Voivod. Yes, indeed. Saw Soundgarden open for them Killing Technology era. 1998, Rochester, NY. Jaw- dropping good. Both bands, actually.

Lord Dying are killing it right now. Great riffing- 7 inch on Power Blaster and rumours of ReLapse full length. Gonna be out w/Red Fang in the Fall. Great band.

Saw Soundgarden open for them Killing Technology era. 1998

you have to mean 1988, saw the same show but on the nothingface tour in 1991 or something prong and soundgarden opened. soundgarden had some dude playing guitar offstage and a bunch of the crowd actually brought soundgarden records from home so they could wave them in the air while they played. I thought they sucked. voivod ruled

89 actually. The Seattle thing hadn't become overblown yet and Soundgarden were impressively slow for then high school ears. Rochester, NY.
