Goner Message Board / Goner Records / Suggestions For Tennessee/Hardcore Punk Mix (90s/Early 00's)
Posted: Jun 7, 2011 5:13 pm | Edited by: brisby
Does anyone have any suggestions for a mix focused on Tennessee Punk/Hardcore during the 90s and early 00's. I have already posted one on a blog (hauntedhound) but I'm thinking that I probably left quite a few bands out and have started working on a second mix. I am mainly familiar with Knoxville and Nashville and would appreciate any input on Memphis bands that I skipped over.

Also, does anyone know how to get in touch with Howell Evans?
Here is who I have so far for the comp:

Copout (Memphis)
Thumbnail (Knoxville)
Process Is Dead (Nashville)
High Strung (Nashville)
His Hero Is Gone (Memphis)
The Red Scare (Knoxville)
Today Is the Day (Nashville)
Pony Boy Curtis (Memphis)
Teen Idols (Nashville)
The Oblivians (Memphis)
Govern (Nashville)
Serotonin (Nashville)
Staynless (Memphis)
From Ashes Rise (Nashville)
The Malignmen (Knoxville)
Torture Kitty (Knoxville)
Deathreat (Nashville)
Booby Hatch (Nashville)
Tragedy (Memphis)
Rise From Ruin (Knoxville)
Asschapel (Nashville)
Jack Palance Band (Chattanooga)
Pezz (Memphis)
Fun Girls From Mt. Pilot (Nashville)
The Reatards (Memphis)

Stupid Americans "Lost Cause" EP. They were from Nashville. I think the record was on the same label as one of the Rednecks In Pain EPs. House on Fire? I can't remember. The title track is comp worthy.

I will have to check that out. I have also heard a lot about Rednecks in Pain... although I think they were mainly active during the late 80's.

Dude, do NOT forget Rude Street Peters of Knoxville. Absolutely fucking legendary redneck punk rock. They had a song that they wouldn't play unless someone got naked ("Butt Waller") and the singer, who, to this day, never takes down his halloween decorations, has the stage presence of a drunk, hillbilly Jello Biafra and the voice of a toothless Lemmy. The vinyl record plant refused to print their disc because they ripped off cheesy rock and roll riffs (and didn't try to hide it). And even though they are all about 50, whenever they still play (once every 2 or 3 years) they fill up the Pilot Light to the brim. They should all be getting handjob offers from A&R douchebags in exchange for reissuing their CD, but instead, the singer has worked at Sam's Club for 20+ years.
